Don’t BATHE your Newborn
What is the microbiome ❓
It’s your skin’s natural defense 👉🏾 billions of live microorganisms, also known as “flora”. Flora is our good Judy ❤️ She helps keep our baby’s skin healthy by protecting it from harmful bacteria and generating important nutrients, enzymes, and lipids for baby skin’s function.
How do we protect The Microbiome❓
Don’t bathe the baby right away. Delay washing baby especially with soap for the first 6-24 hours. Some even suggest 36 hours. Please note that this may not be the case for parents who have vaginal diseases or HIV etc. When your baby is born you may think all the gunk and white sticky stuff is gross. No honey it’s beautiful. Don’t wash or wipe away babies first deference. The medical term is known as vernix. The layers of cheese like smear keeps your baby from being pickled during pregnancy. Vernix also promotes healing for the birthing persons perineal wounds
Please be mindful when using certain products on baby. Those containing sulfur , alcoholic , fragrances and dyes can be extremely damaging to babies skin and pH.
Birthing persons who have Belly Births or cesarean birth may ask for “swabbing” from the canal so that their baby may reap the same benefits 😍

Part 2 will be posted later
**will contain diet info and resources for belly birth parents
